About the Advisory Board on Zero Waste

 

The Secretary General’s Advisory Board of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste was announced by the Secretary General at the High-Level Meeting on The Role of Zero Waste as a Transformative Solution in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals held in the General Assembly on 31st March 2023. The Advisory Board has been constituted for a period of three years and the twelve members are to promote local and national zero-waste initiatives through raising awareness and the dissemination of best practices and success stories. 

 


 

UNSG announces the Advisory Board on Zero Waste

 

The United Nations Secretary-General (UNSG) announced in his speech at the High-Level Meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York on 30th of March, that he is establishing an Advisory Board of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste. And greatly appreciates Her Excellency the First Lady of Türkiye for agreeing to chair this important initiative – along with Mr. Jose Manuel Moller, CEO and Founder of Algramo, as vice-chair. The Advisory Board will share success stories of national and local zero-waste initiatives.

 


 

Scope

 

The scope of the UN SG's Advisory Board on Zero Waste is to promote local and national zero-waste initiatives through, inter alia, the dissemination of best practices and success stories, as direct contribution to the implementation of United Nations General Assembly resolution 77/161

On this basis the Advisory Board will support zero waste initiatives by:

  • Showcasing and publicizing best practices and success stories; and
  • Raising awareness and promoting local and national zero-waste initiatives.
